Waterproofing your kite

I recently found after crashing my kite into some muddy water at the beach that it felt like i was flying and old persons bed sheet. My kite is about 2-3 years old now and I'm finding that the material has lost it's waterproofing credentials. I've done some researching and found there is a product on the market that is designed for just Kites. I then looked at the ingredients and found it had he same values as the waterproofing wax you apply to tents. It has to be water repellent and breathable.

I found this product: NIKWAX: Tent & Gear Solarproof
There are many water repelent solutions on the market
I got it from Millets for around £6.99, it adds water repellency, increases fabric strength and protects against UV deterioration.

APPLYING
Step 1: Give your kite a good hosing down and remove excess dirty or sand from the kite, making sure you clean the inside of your kite. You don't have to wait for your kite to completely dry but i decided on this.

Step 2: Lay kite fully expanded on the floor or clean surface outdoors making sure you can access all the areas.

Spray approx 15-20cm from fabric being careful not to inhale the solution.
Wash skin if you come in contact with the solution
Step 3: Spray solution over kite making sure you cover all the surface area.

It's important to let the solution soak in for 2-3 minutes not a minute more.
Step 4: Wait 2-3 minutes for the solution to work it's magic

Use a clean cloth or J-cloth
Step 5: Get a clean damp cloth at the ready to clean up excess solution

I would probably advise to use gloves
Step 6: Wipe over fabric and clean up excess solution and allow the kite to dry over a clothes line outdoors. Once dried repeat steps on the underside of your kite.
